Team Belarus succeded at the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2026). The event was taking place from 25 September to 5 October in Hanoi (Vietnam). This year, 300 schoolchildren from 64 different countries took part in the Olympiad.
The highest award – gold medal – went to Yan Terekhov, (a graduate of the Lyceum No 1 of Grodno named after academician Y.M. Ostrovski). Belarusian kids begin to study Astronomy during their 11 and final year, as planned in the national school program. However, Yan began to master the subject when he was doing his 10 year and then demonstrated his high level knowledge at the world stage.
The jury also awarded certificates of commendation to Margarita Glushakova (a graduate of Gymnasium No. 51 in Gomel) and Sofya Mazurkevich (a graduate of the V.Kh. Serebryany Gymnasium No. 41 in Minsk).
We extend our gratitude to the team leaders and mentors—Kazimir Znosko (Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno) and Alexander Spiridonov (Belarusian State University), both Associate Professors and Candidates of Physical and Mathematical Sciences—for the high level of training provided to our students.
Congratulations to the young astronomers and their teachers on this excellent result!
